Essex County Mortgages Could Have Fake Signatures
BOSTON (CBS) -- Hundreds of mortgages on file at a local Registry of Deeds could contain fake signatures. That's the charge leveled by Southern Essex County Register of Deeds John O'Brien.
After a "60 Minutes" expose on CBS, O'Brien searched his files looking for mortgages carrying forged signatures. He found more than 260 of them, all submitted by Bank of America.
O'Brien says it's astonishing that people would engage in this kind of fraud in a public Registry of Deeds.
