NAHANT (CBS) – There’s a boil water order in Nahant after a water main break Thursday morning.

One of the two water mains feeding the town’s supply broke around 5:40 a.m. near the Coast Guard Station on Castle Road, cutting off service to all 4,000 residents.

Town manager Mark Cullinan told WBZ-TV service was being restored across town around 9 a.m.  However, water pressure is low and residents should boil their water as a precaution for the next 24 hours.

The 14-inch pipe that broke is only 40 years old.  There was no construction in the area at the time of the break and the cause is still not known.

  1. Don says:

WBZ radio is reporting water won’t be restored until around noon. It certainly hasn’t been restored as reported on the WBZ website. As of 9:50 AM, there isn’t a drop coming out of the faucet.
