Designer: Kate Middleton's Wedding Dress Will Set Trends

BOSTON (CBS) - Westminster Abbey in London is regal and somewhat imposing. That creates a challenge for Kate Middleton on her wedding day. She'll need a dress that's not just spectacular because of the surroundings, but one that's also fit for a king.

WBZ-TV's Paula Ebben reports

Boston fashion designer Denise Hajjar has created all kinds of wedding gowns for all kinds of brides.

"I'd like to see her do something more lean and long versus the opulence of Diana," said Hajjar. "She is not Diana. She is her own women."

"I'd like to see her be more modern," added Hajjar. "The 1980s was about opulence which was great. We needed that. Things go in cycles, so I think I think it will be nice to see a little of both, some bling, but some cleaner lines."

No matter what style Kate Middleton decides upon, it will instantly set off a trend in the fashion world.

Hajjar is excited to see that happen because she believes wedding gowns have been following a certain look for a long time. "Maybe she will say you don't have to bare everything to look gorgeous."

Kate Middleton is known for her lovely long brown hair. Hajjar expects it will be mostly up, following the "tradition of having it off your face, and with this particular ceremony, with the tiara."

Another key question for any bride to be: White or Ivory? Hajjar would favor ivory because she believes white is hard color for a lot of brides unless they have a darker skin tone.

Whatever Kate Middleton chooses will be a big secret until she walks down the aisle. In the meantime, fashionistas like Hajjar will just have fun speculating. "We all say this and in the end, we might be surprised, "she said.
