Police Search For Runner Knocked Down During Boston Marathon

BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston police are looking for a Boston Marathon runner who was knocked down by a bystander during Monday's race.

Police say it happened at about 2:20 p.m. on Chestnut Hill Avenue near mile 22.

A man jumped over the steel barriers and ran into the street filled with runners.

"The female runner was violently knocked down by the suspect who then continued running through the crowd in an effort to meet with a friend who was running in the marathon. Several officers observed this but were unable to assist this woman due to the volume of runners at this time," police said in a statement Wednesday.

WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports.

Other runners helped the woman up and she continued on towards Cleveland Circle.

Police say she's white, approximately 35-to-40 years old, with a slim build, dark colored hair, and dark colored running gear. Witnesses were not able to get her bib number.

Police stopped 20-year-old Brendan Quinn, who's now facing charges of disorderly conduct and disrupting an assembly.

The woman and any witnesses are urged to call Boston Police detectives at 617-343-4335.

"We'd like to speak with her to get further clarification on what she went through," said Officer James Kenneally. Police say there could be more charges to come.

They hope the incident serves as a reminder that the metal fences along the route are there for a reason. Crossing them, they say, can easily lead to injuries.

WBZ-TV's Christina Hager contributed to this report.
