Historic Medfield Home Saved From Wrecking Ball

MEDFIELD (CBS) – It was moving day for an historic home that once belonged to 17th-century educator Lowell Mason.

On Tuesday, the home was saved from the wrecking ball and moved about a mile down the road.

A developer was previously planning to demolish the home to make way for a new development.

Lowell Mason is considered the father of music education in American public schools. In the 1830s, Mason convinced the Boston School Committee to introduce music education. His curriculum was widely adopted across the country.

Mason also served as president of Boston's famed Handel and Haydn Society.
