Family: Bystanders Saved Driver's Life After Revere Crash, Fire

REVERE (CBS) - A gutsy effort by good Samaritans and police officers helped save the life of a man trapped in a burning car.

Police say a hit and run crash left Ronald Seaburg's car in flames on Brown Circle in Revere earlier this week.

Seaburg was trapped inside and unconscious.

WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports

Several witnesses tried to open the car and wake him, including Michael Larochelle

"He kind of looked like he was in the back seat, said Larochelle. "Everybody starting yelling he's alive. The flames were 10 feet high and smoke was thick as black."

Eventually, when officers arrived, the group managed to pull him out a rear window.

A few people, including the two officers on scene did suffer some smoke inhalation, but will be okay.

"It was scary. We thought the car was going to blow up. We didn't know what to expect," said Larochelle.

Seaburg is in stable condition at Mass General. He suffered a fractured pelvis, facial injuries and some burns.

His mom, Sharon Marie Seaburg is grateful for those who jumped to help.

"Thanks for you because if it wasn't for you he would definitely be dead," she said.

Police arrested the driver of the other car, who they say was drunk at the time of the crash. He faces number of charges.
