Crews Race To Fill Potholes On Boston Marathon Route
HOPKINTON (CBS) -If you think the spring potholes are brutal on your tires, imagine what they're like for marathon runners. "If you run on the right side when you're going into the city, for example, and you're not paying attention, you're drifting away when you run, and you hit one of these potholes and you just fall forward," says runner Bill Mcman, who's finished 5 marathons.
That's why crews are scrambling to fill cracks and potholes along a 26.2 mile stretch of roadway.
They have until Monday before thousands of competitive runners run the route from Hopkinton to Boston.

The pavement is still recovering from one of its worst weather beatings ever this winter.
"The streets have put up with a lot of salt, a lot of sand. It's a real mess," says Commissioner Joanne Massaro. She says rain in the forecast this weekend adds to the challenge. "If there is a pothole, the rain will just get under it and just kind of loosen it up a little bit more," says Massaro.
She says public works managers will be out Friday and the rest of the weekend riding the route to make sure it's smooth.
