Boston Marathon Weather Forecast: A First Look

BOSTON (CBS) - I know so many Boston runners who have been looking at 10-day, 14-day, even 20-day forecasts in hopes of getting a glimpse of what the weather may be like for Marathon Monday.

We have finally reached a reasonable timeframe to start giving an idea of what runners may be facing next Monday.

Will this forecast change?

Almost certainly yes, too far out.  7 days away this forecast should be viewed for recreational purposes only, not taken as fact!

Ok, so with all the disclaimers out of the way, here is what we are currently thinking.

We have a fairly large storm system coming through on Saturday, so large that it will likely take a while to fully get itself out of New England - this should be a good thing.

It will probably block any other storms from heading up this way through at least early Tuesday.

So, we get a good dose of rain on Saturday followed by some partial clearing during the day on Sunday, temperatures this weekend in the 50's.

On Marathon Monday the storm will be past our latitude but close enough so that we will remain in its wind field and perhaps see a few remnant clouds as well.

So the official forecast for the race… drum roll please…

Partly to mostly sunny, breezy (West-northwest 10-to-20 mph early, then relaxing a bit in the afternoon), temps rising through the 40's in the morning and well into the 50's during the afternoon.

Winds at this point look to stay WNW for most of the race, meaning a there could be bit of a cross-wind, we'll see. A fairly typical mid-April day seems to be in store.

Stay tuned!
