Celtics Coach Doc Rivers Wins 2010-2011 Red Auerbach Award

BOSTON (CBS) – Celtics coach Doc Rivers has been chosen to receive this year's Red Auerbach Award.

Rivers was given the award Friday night before the start of the Game against the Wizards.

The award is given to a Celtics player or coach who best exemplifies the spirit of what it means to be a Celtic through performance on the court and off.

"Doc Rivers deserves this award because he has proved that not only can you be a great basketball coach but you can be a strong role model in the Boston community and off the court," Boston Celtics Managing Partner and Co-owner Wyc Grousbeck said. "I am proud to have someone like Doc Rivers as a Boston Celtic because he exemplifies what it means to be a true Celtic".

The Red Auerbach Award was created in 2006, named after legendary Celtics Arthur "Red" Auerbach.

Previous recipients include Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Al Jefferson, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo.
