Bruins Raise $40K At 'Cuts For A Cause'

BOSTON (CBS) -Shawn Thornton got a new haircut to go with the scar on his forehead, and all for a great cause.

The Bruins forward, along with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich, held the fourth annual "Cuts For A Cause" Thursday at Ned Devine's in Fanuel Hall, raising over $40,000 for the  the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center to benefit children battling cancer.

Thornton and 15 of his teammates got their heads shaved by winning bidders, who also got to enjoy a special VIP session to mingle with the team and receive a special Bruins gift bag that included autographed Bruins memorabilia.

"They're all a great bunch of guys and they really stepped up," Thornton said of his teammates. "This is all voluntary, nobody's forced to do it. This is showing how big of a great group of guys we have in that room. Even the guys that didn't shave their head they donated money to at least match the minimum bid. I can't say enough for the guys."

All of the money raised at the event will be donated through the Boston Bruins Foundation and will benefit Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center's "Child Life Services Activities", "Shooting Stars" and "Very Important Brothers and Sisters" programs.
