BOSTON (CBS) – The Pittsburgh Pirates have released former Red Sox top pitching prospect Craig Hansen. Hansen, drafted 26th overall by Boston in 2005 and once seen as a future closer, was traded to the Pirates in 2008 as part of the three-team deal with the Dodgers that landed Jason Bay in Boston and Manny Ramirez in Los Angeles.

He pitched in just 21 games for Pittsburgh over two seasons, finishing with a 6.95 ERA and a single save. The reliever spent 2010 in the minors, trying to come back from a nerve injury.
