Bruins Thornton Hopes To Play Wednesday

BOSTON (CBS) - Shawn Thornton hopes to return to game action Wednesday night when the Bruins host the New York Islanders.

"I'm very anxious to get back into a game," Thornton said at practice on Tuesday, one week after receiving over 40 stitches above his right eye. "I don't know what's going to happen, obviously it's the coaches decision. But if I'm going tomorrow night I'll be very excited to be playing."

Thornton skated without a visor on his helmet Tuesday and is not worried about re-injuring the cut.

"I think its fine, I took the visor off today," Thornton said. "I think the stitches are coming out today or tomorrow morning. Just another scar after that."

Thornton has set career highs with nine goals, nine assists and 18 points this season.

Tune in to the Bruins-Islanders game on 98.5 The Sports Hub Wednesday night starting at 6:30 p.m. with the Dunkin Donuts Bruins Pregame show.
