Geoffrey Lewis stabbed his neighbor's pit bull in the stomach Thursday because the dog was coming after his pet Akita in his yard and he feared it would go after other family members. The Lewises say the pit bull has acted aggressively toward them in the past.

The incident came a day before new tough restrictions on pit bull ownership took effect in the city.

Police tell the Telegram & Gazette that animal control officers determined no charges would be filed because the unlicensed, unleashed pit bull was the aggressor.

The dog's owner, Chevon Felker, says her dog was trying to play and there was no need to stab it.
