Wachusett To Close Sunday Despite New Snow

PRINCETON (CBS) -- April snow showers brought Wachusett Mountain a ski-lovers paradise. The problem is, there's not a lot of ski-lovers left.

This late in the season the owners of the mountain are having a tough time bringing in customers. Despite perfect conditions it seems as though spring fever has people sick of snow.

WBZ-TV's Alana Gomez reports

"They're getting ready for the next thing and they're getting the golf clubs out," said vice president Carolyn Stimpson. "If it were February we would be sold out at 4,125 people. Now we've got a couple hundred."

The few hundred still out on the slopes on April Fools' Day were enjoying every last run.

"We came out because we never get this much snow usually this time of year," said John Lavelle from Needham.

"Not that many people are out here, and I don't know why," said Nick Rolfsen from Quincy. "I golf too, but I'd rather stay on the slopes for a little longer than that."

Wachusett Mountain must close by April 15. The owners say the state takes back part of the road on the mountain at that time.

Their last day is Sunday, but they would consider keeping it open one more weekend if demand was high enough.
