Cinelli Brother Also Charged With Murder Of Woburn Officer

WOBURN (CBS) – Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone announced new charges Thursday in the December 26 robbery of the Kohl's department store in Woburn, where career criminal Dominic Cinelli shot and killed Woburn Sgt. Jack McGuire.

WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports

"We believe that Arthur Cinelli had an active role in planning the robbery," Leone said.

Arthur Cinelli has now been indicted on murder charges.

Sgt. McGuire shot and killed Dominic Cinelli, before succumbing to his own wounds.

Leone said that after the shooting, police questioned Arthur Cinelli, who said he knew nothing about it.

Then, they found his cell phone, which contained text messages to his brother Dom, minutes before the robbery.

"One message said 'be careful, and wear full headgear. Also, the snow is an opportunity, but also a risk,'" Leone said.

When asked by reporters why Arthur wasn't physically involved in the robbery, if he helped plan it, Leone said, "Arthur had hip surgery just days before… so he was home in Newburyport."

Arthur Cinelli is being held in New Hampshire by federal agents, on unrelated drug charges.
