Husband Charged With Killing Wife In Wakefield

WAKEFIELD (CBS) - A 72-year-old man was arrested on Monday for fatally shooting his wife in Wakefield, according to authorities.

According to investigators, David McCall fired two shots from a handgun, with one of the bullets striking his 69-year-old wife Elaine in the chest, killing her.

WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports.

"Suffice it to say, there was some sort of substantial disagreement, and a Elaine McCall was the victim of a homicide," said Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone.

McCall then called 911 at around 8:15 a.m. and told dispatchers about a murder-suicide at his home, investigators said. Officials would not say whether or not David tried to commit suicide after the incident.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Bernice Corpuz reports.

"(McCall) didn't make good on his suicide, which is what he called in at the time," said Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone.

McCall was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Monday afternoon and was sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

NEIGHBORS SHOCKED

Neighbors was stunned after learning that McCall allegedly killed his own wife Monday morning.

"I can't beleive it, " said one man as he was backing out of his driveway, "they were elderly, and quiet...pretty much kept to themselves."
