Haverhill Teen Charged With Killing Man While Driving & Texting

HAVERHILL (CBS) -- Authorities have charged a Haverhill teen with motor vehicle homicide after the say he was texting and driving when he caused a fatal crash.

17-year-old Aaron Deveau is also charged with texting while driving in the February 20 accident. Police say Deveau's Chevy Malibu crossed the center line on River Street in Haverhill hitting a car driven by Donald Bowley, 55, of Danville head on.

Bowley was taken to Mass General Hospital where he died of his injuries on March 10.

A passenger in Bowley's car was also injured in the crash.

A law took effect September 30 that prohibits texting while driving. In addition, minors are prohibited from using a cell phone at all while driving.
