Bellingham Students Cook Up Two National Finalist Recipes

BELLINGHAM (CBS) - In the Bellingham Middle School kitchen, cooking is art, the students are artists, and two dishes in particular have become their master pieces.

WBZ-TV's Diana Perez reports

Tasty Tots and Mediterranean Quinoa Salad landed the middle school on a short list of finalists in a nationwide recipe contest.

As part of First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign, schools submitted easy to replicate, kid friendly dishes.

Bellingham is the only Massachusetts school on the finalist list and the only one in the nation to have two recipes selected.

The two top 15 recipes are vying to be top three. They could win up to $3,000 and score a trip to participate in a cook-off at the White House.

Eighth grader Elizabeth Bernardini says it's like a dream come true.

"I want to be a chef when I grow up so this is why I wanted to do this," Bernardini said.

The kids need your help to make it there.

You can check out the recipes here, and even try one out if you'd like.

Most importantly, the students ask that you vote and vote again.
