PLYMOUTH (CBS) — Cities across the United States have sister cities in other countries around the world. Sometimes they’re in Europe, others in Africa, Plymouth’s is in Asia.

Plymouth’s sister city is Japan’s Shichigahama, the city closest to the epicenter of the March 11th earthquake. The city is devastated and now its sister city here in Massachusetts is raising money to help it and the people who live there.

Already Plymouth has raised $20,000 to donate, and on Tuesday will hold a telethon to raise more.

The Sister City Telethon will be televised in Kingston and Plymouth on Comcast channel 13 and 15, and on Verizon channels 43 and 47 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

People can make donations by calling 774-283-4477 the night of the telethon, or by going to PACTV’s website.
