MBTA Triples Number Of Three-Car Trains On Green Line

BOSTON (CBS) - Green line riders will tell you that space is a definite commodity, especially during rush hour. So, the MBTA is taking steps to rectify that situation.

Starting next week, the "T" will nearly triple the number of three-car trains on the Green Line.

"As I've talked with Green Line customers over the past year, train capacity is an issue that is frequently raised," said MBTA General Manager Richard Davey. "We have received that message loud and clear, and the MBTA is responding."

Some of those trains will be designated for the E-branch. It will mark the first time ever tri-car trains run on Huntington Ave.

Davey said the increased service will make commuting more comfortable for both existing customers and new riders.

The 3-car trains will make 32 trips each weekday.  The currently make about six runs a day on each of the Green Line's B and D branches.
