MARLBORO (CBS) – Locals are stunned by the news that Fidelity Investments will be closing its headquarters in Marlboro.

Some 1,100 jobs will be going to parts of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Boston.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Carl Stevens reports.

Craig, who owns a service station convenience store in Marlboro, has seen companies come and go over the years. He said that Fidelity leaving with its 1,100 jobs will have a big effect on business.

“It really has a huge impact on my business. I’ve seen it decline as people have left. I’ve seen it affect my business, and now it’s gonna be totally gone, so it’s definitely upsetting, and I wish there was something we could do about it to get these people back and fill up these buildings,” said the store owner.

Marlboro residents agree. One resident said the area has high unemployment, and the job loss is significant to the local economy.

The jobs being moved were held by people with good wages. Those people will soon be buying their gas and going to restaurants somewhere else.
