Haverhill Officials Ponder Fate Of Old, Stinky Rugs At City Hall

HAVERHILL (CBS) - Something's rotten in the city hall in Haverhill. It's the carpeting, and one city councilor thinks it's time to get rid of it.

Councilor Dave Hall said they are the same rugs that were there when he worked at the old police station 20 years ago.

He said he's not the only one who has tripped over the rugs because they're frayed.

Hall said the mayor is supposed to have a capital improvement fund to pay for upgrades, but when he asks about getting new rugs, the mayor says there's no money. The mayor reportedly says the city can't afford the $100,000 in renovation costs due to a big budget shortfall.

He said the city hall is supposed to be Haverhill's white house, but it looks and smells like an outhouse.
