"Clark Rockefeller" Charged With 1985 CA Murder

LOS ANGELES (CBS) -- Clark Rockefeller, whose given name is Christian Gerhartsreiter, is charged with killing a man in California in 1985.

Rockefeller was charged Tuesday with killing John Sohus of San Marino, California. Sohus was last seen in early 1985. Shortly after he disappeared a man who lived in the Sohus family guest house also disappeared. Prosecutors say that man was later identified as Gerhartsreiter.

WBZ-TV's Jonathan Elias reports.

In May 1994, a body was discovered buried in the backyard of the Sohus house. The remains were identified as John Sohus'. An investigation determined he died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Prosecutors are requesting Gerhartsreiter be extradited from Massachusetts to California.

He is serving time in Massachusetts for parental kidnapping of his daughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was found not guilty during the same trial of the charge of assault and battery and of using a false name.
