BELLINGHAM (CBS) – A missing therapy dog has been found dead.

A family in Bellingham had begun a search for the 100-pound dog after it was spooked and bolted into the woods.

The dog, named Seamus, was specially trained to help 6-year-old Michael, a little boy undergoing serious medical treatment.

The dog was found in a body of water behind the family home.

This story didn’t make sense. This help dog appeared to stay harnessed. How’d it rush off into the woods, while taking a walk? Why’d it get spooked, by what? Found in a body of water like that, I feel bad in any sense so much but hope that it wasn’t foul play. My thoughts are with the boy and the family, too.

A dog can certainly survive a few days in the woods. What happened to this poor dog? I hope someone will find the truth.

Oh my gosh.. This makes me so sad.. My father is undergoing chemo treatment, and I know how much my weimaraner makes him happy. Dogs are comforting.

If there is fund to donate to, for this family getting another therapy dog, I want to donate.

A very sad ending for this poor animal. We are all aware that it got spooked and ran into the woods but we don’t know one thing. Was it on a leash????

My sincere condolences to the family. I know the sadness of saying goodbye to a trusted friend.

Such a tragic ending, so sorry. The dog was just doing what dog’s do- investigating, being protective.

I had been looking for this story because I caught a glimpse of it and I couldn’t find it to read what happened. I am soooo very sad about the dog. I can’t believe this happened because service dogs are so well trained and they just don’t run off and get scared and run off or anything like that. OMgosh and to be found in a body of water dead like just breaks my heart. I hope they get to the bottom of this mystery so the dog can get some justice. I feel bad for the little boy.
