Local Couple Collects Used Hockey Equipment To Donate To Others
CHESTNUT HILL (CBS) -- A local couple is collecting used hockey equipment to clean and donate to other children who may not be able to afford the expensive sport.
Friday night Scott Crowder of Restore Sports Inc. was at the Boston College-University of New Hampshire hockey game collecting used helmets, sticks and pads.
"There's a lot of people out there that want to play the sport and because of the financial burden associated with it they don't play it," Crowder explained.
WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports.
Keith Meal and his son, Thomas, donated some of Thomas' old equipment. "Rather than throw it away we always look situation like this," the father said. Thomas said he donated his old shoulder pads, hockey pants, gloves, skates and helmets.
Crowder says they clean and refurbish all of the donations and then get it to kids who need and want it.
Stephen Russo is one of those people. He started a learn-to-skate program for young girls in Watertown. At first they didn't have any equipment. But thanks to Restore Sports in a week he had enough equipment to suit 40 girls ages four to 10.
