Patrick said Friday the nominees will help "rebuild the public's confidence in the parole system."

Patrick's selections to the seven-member board include:

  • Lucy Soto-Abbe, a victim advocate in the Hampden County District Attorney's office;
  • Dr. Charlene Bonner, a forensic psychologist in the Plymouth County courts;
  • John Bocon, a former federal probation officer;
  • Ina Howard-Hogan, now the board's general counsel.

"They have a range of background and I think they understand that not just I, but the general public, is watching them very, very closely," Patrick said.

In January, Patrick accepted the resignations of five board members who in 2008 voted to parole career criminal Dominic Cinelli. In December, Cinelli killed Woburn police officer Jack Maguire in a shootout, after robbing the jewelry counter at Kohl's. Cinelli was also killed.

The nominations now go to the Governor's Council for approval.

Josh Wall, a former Suffolk County prosecutor, was confirmed as Chairman of the Parole Board last month.
