Pizza Deliveryman Shot During Robbery 'Scared'

WORCESTER (CBS) - A pizza delivery driver shot on the job by two masked men in Worcester is out of the hospital and getting ready to go back to work, but he admits he's scared.

Gilberto Ferreira was just doing his job when he was ambushed by a pair of thugs. He was shot in the arm while delivering pizza.

"After being shot, I thank God because it's only my arm and not my head or my back," said Ferreira.

WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports.

Last week, the 46-year-old was making a delivery to a Providence Street apartment building when two masked men with a gun robbed him of his money.

"He said, 'How much you have? I have $95,'" said Ferreira.

When Ferreira told the robbers he had no more money, he turned and ran into the street with his hands in the air screaming for help.

"I said 'Help for me please!' I took my arms up, I got shot," said Ferreira.

His boss said its unfair what happened to Ferreira, who works hard everyday.

"We happen to be in a very depressed area. We take chances everyday," said Jack Lahddo of J&J Pizza Express.

At the J&J Pizza Express, people are happy to see Ferreira back to work. Today he still can't open his hand all the way and he has to hold his arm in the air.

Despite his injuries, Ferreira needs to work to provide for his family back home in Brazil, but he's scared.

"The money he was making here, he would send to them to take care of their business in there, and now I don't know," said Ida Fernandes of Worcester.

"The streets are very, very dangerous. I go deliver, but I'm scared," said Ferreira.

Ferriera said it will be another month before he can return back to work.

Police say they are still looking for the gunmen.
