Worcester Woman Beaten While Walking Home

WORCESTER (CBS) - Police are looking for a man who attacked a Worcester woman, and repeatedly kicked her in the head as she walked near her home Sunday morning.

Neighbor Mike DeMauro says he heard the woman screaming for help.

"They were kind of really terrible screams you know, like someone really getting hurt," he says.

WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports.

Police say witnesses saw a man in a hooded sweatshirt, and when officers arrived, they found the 48-year-old woman injured and lying in a snowbank.

"It is unknown at this time if robbery was the motive or if it was an attempted sexual assault,"  said police in a press release.

Residents say it's a quiet neighborhood, where women normally feel safe walking around at all hours. "It's alarming, definitely gives you pause," says one woman who lives on Farrar Avenue where it happened.

The victim was treated and released from UMass Memorial Medical Center.
