2 Worcester Deliverymen Robbed At Gunpoint This Week
WORCESTER (CBS) – Pizza delivery drivers from the same restaurant were held up at gunpoint two nights in a row this week in Worcester.
One delivery driver was shot, while another was threatened with a gun. The robbers are still on the run.
The deliverymen both work at J & J Pizza Express.
“For a lousy 100 dollars? A human life…there is no value to it anymore,” said pizza shop owner Jack Lahddo.
Lahddo said delivering pizza is dangerous. One of his employees, 46-year-old Jilberto Ferrara, was shot while doing his job.
Police said on Thursday, Ferrara was delivering pizza to a Providence Street apartment building when two masked men robbed him on his way back to his car.
After Ferrera gave the men what little money he had, one of the suspects pulled out a gun. As Ferrera turned and ran, they shot him from behind.
Lahddo said this is the second time in one week that one of his employees was threatened with a gun.
“The rule: anybody ask you for the money, give it to them. Don’t put your life in danger,” said Lahddo.
Ferrera followed that rule, but it still almost cost him his life. He works two jobs to provide for his loved ones in Brazil.
Friday, business was very busy, and some of the workers are afraid to deliver pizza.
“They are nervous, but they take chance. Somebody got to do it,” said Lahddo.
Doctors said the shooting victim will live. He is recovering at the UMass Medical Memorial Center.
Police are still searching for the suspects. Anyone with info is asked to contact Worcester Police.
Ferrera told his boss he has no plans to return to work. Once he recovers, he said he wants to go home to Brazil and never come back.
