What Will The Celtics Do At NBA Trade Deadline?

BOSTON (CBS) - Thursday should be a busy day for the Boston Celtics.

The NBA trade deadline is at 3 p.m., and Celtics GM Danny Ainge will be looking for reinforcements.

CSNNE's Rich Levine told 98.5 The Sports Hub's The D.A. Show Thursday morning he expects the Celtics to make a move, because "they're backs are against the wall."

The Celtics are looking to add some depth to their bench, which was viewed as an asset at the start of the season. Marquis Daniels' (bruised spine) is likely out for the rest of the season, Delonte West has played in just six games this season because of a broken wrist, and Nate Robinson has been sporadic off the bench.

The bench has been the biggest issue for the Celtics this season. Due to the rash of injuries, it has not yet found it's identity.  Adding a veteran now would give them time to form some chemistry before the playoffs. Levine thinks Cleveland guard Anthony Parker is the most likely candidate to join the Celtics on Thursday.

The problem is Boston does not have much to offer in return. Guard Nate Robinson, rookie guard Avery Bradley, and rookie center Semih Erden are the only chips that may entice teams, and the Celtics would have to sweeten any deal with draft picks.

The Boston Globe's Gary Washburn also joined the D.A. Show Thursday morning, and feels signing a player who has been bought-out will be the Celtics best option. They may be quiet on deadline day because of the lack of options, and sit back and wait for players like Golden State forward Troy Murphy and Detroit guard Richard Hamilton. Murphy is expected to be bought out soon, where the Hamilton situation may take some time to sort out.

The problem with the buy-out route is the Celtics already have 15 players under contract. Someone is going to have to go, via trade or release, if the Celtics hope to add another veteran by the end of the season.
