Scammers Posing As Water Department Targeting Elderly

By Jim Armstrong, WBZ-TV

HAVERHILL (CBS) – Police in Haverhill are hoping someone comes forward with information about two men who appear to be actively scamming elderly residents here.

Last Friday, a man posing as water department employee conned his way into the home of a 94-year-old woman.

Police say the man convinced her to take him downstairs to examine her pipes while an accomplice snuck in and stole $800 from the woman’s bedroom.

WBZ-TV’s Jim Armstrong reports.

That same day, police believe the same suspects talked their way into the house of a 91-year-old woman.  But when they realized her 83-year-old husband was home, they took off.

Authorities are reminding everyone that they should ask to see proper identification of anyone who wants to enter their homes.
