200 Massachusetts National Guard Soldiers Head To Afghanistan

READING (CBS) -- More than 200 members of the Massachusetts National Guard were the guests of honor at a send-off ceremony in Reading Tuesday morning.

The soldiers from the 26th Yankee Brigade will be heading to Afghanistan for the next year.

Lt. Governor Tim Murray thanked the troops and their families for their service.

"We have seen time and time again here in Commonwealth of Massachusetts men and women stand up to serve when called," he said. "For many that has been on multiple occasions."

These soldiers will join about 700 other brigade members already in Afghanistan.
