BOSTON (AP) – Student immigrant advocates in Massachusetts say after the defeat of the federal DREAM Act they are shifting their efforts to state legislation that would allow undocumented students to attend state colleges at in-state tuition rates.
Deivid Ribeiro of the Boston-based Student Immigrant Movement said Friday that advocates will now put their energy on convincing state lawmakers to reconsider a proposal that they have rejected a number of times.
Under the proposal, illegal immigrant students who graduated from a Massachusetts school and can prove state residency would be eligible for in-state tuition rates at Massachusetts schools. They would not be eligible for federal financial aid.
A similar law that has been adopted in at least 10 other states, including Texas, California and New York.

What? The illegals shouldn’t be in our high schools either! I don’t want any of my tax dollars going to anyone here illegally.

    1. mary says:

I agree. My parents came here legally and worked hard to put me and my sisters through school. its not fair that they can come in illegal and use up our resources that we legally worked for. ill stop paying taxes then.

“Illegal” or “legal” they are all immigrants, and come to this nation for the same reason, to get a better life. The problem is that not everyone is granted the opportunity to come legally. These “illegals” work and pay taxes just as any American does, but the difference is that they’ll never get anything back. Many have said that “They don’t want any of their tax dollars going to anyone here illegally”,yet many of these people probably went to college with Financial Aid, or have medicaid or medicare, which are sustained by tax money (including that of “illegals”). So it is very hypocritical to deny these people the change to “come out of the shadows” and be fully incorporated into our society, yet accepting their contributions to our economy. Being the son of “illegal” immigrants, I know first-hand how hard it is to survive in a hostile environment where you’re not welcomed, yet my parent’s dedication and this hostile environment made me stronger and proud of who I am. I am very proud of being a son of “illegals” and a student at Harvard Law School & Harvard Divinity School.

        Hey Saul. Get the HELL
out of my country. By your own admission you are an illegal. And second, illegals can’t work legally so they DON’T pay taxes like the rest of us.

    2. alanonthego says:

Once again those of us who pay taxes have to give money to everyone else, because they feel they are entitled to it. That is one of the biggest problems we have in this country right now. If we could end ALL entitlement programs we would save trillions of dollars and have much lower taxes. I agree with you, I’m tired of giving (by way of taxes) any money to illegals for any reason. They should as you say not even be in our high schools or even getting any assistance. they should be thrown out of our country.

      1. Saul says:

@alanonthego “Hey Saul. Get the HELL out of my country….llegals can’t work legally so they DON’T pay taxes like the rest of us.”

–Your country? Your comments are so absurd that they’re are not even worth my replies, but I’ll answer you any ways because ignorant statements like your should never go unanswered. First of all, I was born in America. “Illegal” immigrants can’t work “legally”, but they certainly do work and contribute to our economy regardless. They have picked the crops from our fields, built our homes, or have fixed our plumbing, or tell me when was the last time you picked the crops you eat? “illegals” get paid a fraction of the minimum wage for their labor(and some even get that fraction “taxed”, of course that money is kept by their bosses to pay their own taxes), they pay bills and buy food (which are also taxed). The only difference is that you will probably receive an Income Tax Return for your taxed income, but they never will.

  2. gramps says:

If they can’t play baseball, they should be deported….!

  3. JimWho says:

They should not be here illegally and since they cannot work legally after getting a college degree they shouldn’t get the benefit as they cannot contribute to the tax base that would have to support them.

  4. BLACKBEAR1 says:

  5. CEO says:

The should be deported, not rewarded.

  6. Jean says:

All illegals must go. They should not be allowed to waste taxpayer money and take services away from US Citizens. They deserve nothing but a plane ticket back to their county of orgin.

    1. Saul says:

@ Jean “get the hell out of my country”

–Is that all you can say? Your comments are based on nothing more than just blind hatred. For your information, I was born in this country, so your nonsense doesn’t apply. You have said that, “All illegals must go. They should not be allowed to waste taxpayer money and take services away from US Citizens”…services such as what? It is interesting, what I’ve noticed is that the vast majority of people who accuse “illegals” of “taking things away” from Americans, such as welfare are in fact on welfare themselves.

      1. Jean says:

So you are an anchor baby. You shouldn’t even be considered a US citizen since your parents were here illegally. Get the hell out you and your parents don’t belong here. Go back to your 3rd world country.

  7. Jean says:

Hey Saul, you and all the other criminals can get the hell out of our country. You and your criminal parents need to be deported back to your own country. Get the hell out. You are not welcome and you are not an immigrant. You and your parents are criminals. If you can’t get that then you’re not college material anyway.

    1. Saul says:

@ Jean “You and your parents are criminals. If you can’t get that then you’re not college material anyway.”

      — my parents and I are criminals? You have proven my point. You speak without knowing and act just as a repeater of all the anti-immigrant demagoguery that there is out there. It is truly sad to see the intellectual bankruptcy in which America finds herself today, and you are a great example of that.

      1. Saul says:

For some reason one of my comments doesn’t post. I’ll divided into two parts.

      2. Jean says:

For someone claiming to be an intelligent individual, you certainly haven’t read any of the immigration laws.

  8. ted says:

Saul, you may have been born her illegally but if your parents are illegals then they are criminals as well. These illegals don’t need to be rewarded or allowed to goto school here. That is not the answer. The answer is sending all the illegals back to where they came from, they are here ILLEGALLY. They don’t get a tax return boo hoo, they don’t deserve anything because they are criminals. There are already barely any jobs for americans so maybe well “minorities” need apply again and give the rest of the jobs to the illegals. They are criminals and should be kicked out of our country, the only reason this won’t happen is probably because barack is a illegal, took quite a long time for him to produce a birth certificate, so maybe he’s an illegal as well.

  9. DStein says:

Here’t the bottom line, most Americans have had enough of illegal immigrants coming here the WRONG WAY. This country has a right to decide who gets in, how many get in, and from where they come from. I’m tired of people coming here illegally and then demanding acceptance into our country. I’m sorry, but we don’t want people here who break the law, We want law abiding citizens that respect this country enough to come in the RIGHT WAY, the legal way.

People fleeing their home country are lazy cowards that come here because they don’t have what it takes to reform their country like the Egyptians are in the process of doing. No, lazy people just leave their country and come to ours and expect us to welcom them with open arms. Sorry, stay home and fix your own country rather than coming here to destroy mine.

  10. Respect is earned says:

In the photo above there is a sign “USA built by immigrants” Yes it was but by immigrants who wanted to assimilate into society and now change it.. Quote from Pres. T. Roosevelt 1907 — ” In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American… There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag…We have room for but one language here, and it is the English language…and we have room for one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

  11. illegal alien says:

once the word wakes up and find out that the planet we call earth is for all of us to share, then maybe the ignorant tall blue eyed nazi looking racist american will finally give up their problem with superiority and entitlement to this planet’s lands.
the big problem is the white race has a very complicated problem, they don’t like to share and they think they are better than others.
lets not forget that this land is beautiful here, but to the other people we are evil due to the infiltration we have on other countries, the bottom line is there will be a point where the USA will need help from these third world countries, not to speak too far, we can see how the economy has decline the last 10 years.
i think everyone deserves a chance to live wherever they feel comfortable, and everyone should have a background check before they planned to stay in another land, if we did this maybe 9/11 wouldn’t never happened.
what this government really cares is the money, because if you have 500.000.00$ you can get a US citizenship no matter where you came from.
and to all of you guys who think that illegal immigrants are taking over your jobs, think again because i haven’t seen the first american that likes to dishwash, or cultivate crops, or pick up the garbage or do your garden, or fix your dirty plumbing, think about the welfare people they are the ones that are stealing the taxes money, because they dont like to work, they pay 100$ for rent, but they have a beautiful brand new accura in the projects parking lot.
this country a based on immigrants and whoever neglects this is because they dont know where they really came from and they are still on their USA bubble land, get out of your bubble and learn about history, i have only seen a few legit american indians and they disturbed to know how their land has been taken over by prejudice people!
the world will soon have a change, and the change will be drastic, it is until then then that we will realize that the planet should be one single country and we should all help each other, we are all the same species, the human specie!
