Weymouth High School Teacher Accused Of Fighting Student

WEYMOUTH (CBS) - A teacher at Weymouth High School could be facing criminal charges for allegedly assaulting one of his students earlier this week.

According to witnesses, it started when the teacher told the teen to leave his math class because the boy was being disruptive and disrespectful.

WBZ-TV's Paul Burton reports

"The teacher asked him to get out and he responded by saying a lot of swears, said 'No,' (there were) a couple of pushes and then they went at it," freshman Ryan Jones told WBZ-TV.

"It was really crazy, desks were flying all over the floor."

Authorities say the teacher put the boy in a headlock during the fight, which lasted nearly two minutes before school security broke it up.

The teen was taken to South Shore Hospital where he was treated for scratches and bruises on his face and neck.

The teacher had just started working at the school on Monday. He has been put on administrative leave until an investigation is finished.

Weymouth police are seeking criminal complaint charges.

No names have been released.

The school released this brief statement Thursday:

"The incident is being taken very seriously and appropriate and immediate action will be taken. Parents of students at the high school have been notified of the incident via telephone and email."
