Maine Man Arrested In Mass., Accused Of Maine Killing

CARVER (CBS) – It's a manhunt that led police from Maine to Massachusetts after a deadly fire in Readville, Maine.  Now 32-year-old David Silva is in custody facing charges of murder, arson and robbery.

Thursday afternoon, the Massachusetts State Police Tactical Team surrounded a home at 12 Williams Drive in Carver where neighbors say Silva's family lives.  Silva surrendered to police without incident and was placed under arrest.

This stems from an early morning fire in Readville, Maine where one person was killed Wednesday morning.  The blaze was at the house where Silva lived with his girlfriend, the homeowners Robert and Janet Orr and another man.

Sources tell WBZ-TV the trail led police to Massachusetts when a truck with Maine plates was found in the parking lot at Rexhame beach in Marshfield.  A dog was also found lying under the truck.

WBZ-TV's Kathy Curran reports.

The murder suspect apparently fled the state of Maine after the fire.  Sources tell us police are executing search warrants at the house where Silva was arrested and at another location in Plymouth.

A body was pulled from the rubble but hasn't been identified.  The only person unaccounted for is one of the homeowners Robert Orr.  Orr is also the owner of the truck that was abandoned in Marshfield.

Silva will be arraigned as a fugitive from justice tomorrow in Wareham District Court and will eventually face murder, arson and robbery charges in Kennebec County Maine.  Maine detectives are questioning David Silva at the State Police barracks in Middleboro where he's being held.
