BOSTON (CBS) – Wednesday night was “Fight Night” at the TD Garden, with a hockey game mixed in somewhere.

In a game with 187 penalty minutes between the Bruins and Canadiens, fans got to see it all. Eight goals by the B’s, a total of 45 penalties, and a fight between the goalies.

It does not get much better than that.

Tim Thomas became the first Bruins goalie to receive a fighting major since Byron Dafoe back in 2002. Thomas threw down with Carey Price, skating down the length of the ice to pick the fight. It did not go as well as Thomas planned.

The good news is no one was hurt during any of the bouts. Just some bruised egos on the Montreal end.

What a sick attitude. Where’s the sportsmanship? What happened to the “sport”? Why not just watch boxing?

I gave up watching or caring about most professional sports because of the gratuitous violence. I have no desire to watch senseless brawls that detract from any talent or skill.

If they had talent and skill they wouldn’t need the violence… and if violence is their talent and skill I have no use for them or desire to watch.

And you encourage your kids to watch and look up to these fighting fools who you glorify? It’s very sad.

If you care so little for “violent” sports why are you taking the time to comment on it here in a local paper? What are you hoping to achieve? If you really want to effect some sort of change, you ought to write your local congressman or the commissioner of the sport in question. You should start a petition and get thousands of signatures to encourage a policy change. Complaining here only antagonizes an audience that will obviously be hostile to your message.
