MassBay Forms Safety Task Force After On-Campus Gun Arrest

WELLESLEY (CBS) -- In the wake of the arrest of a MassBay Community College student who is accused of having a semi-automatic hand gun on campus, the school is now forming a task force to look at campus safety.

Darryl Dookhran was arrested February 3 and is facing numerous gun charges, including carrying a firearm without a license and firearms violations with three prior violent crimes on his record. Police say he had a loaded Tec-9 with a magazine in the chamber on campus.

His attorney said in court last week that Dookhran did not know the firearm was in his backpack.

School officials say in response to the arrest there will be a task force formed of on- and off-campus officials who will look at the school's policies and practices, adequacy of officer training, and the budget of the MassBay Office of Public Safety.
