Springfield Man Sleeps Through Roof Collapse

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Firefighters responding to a roof collapse at a Springfield home found the resident still asleep in his second-floor bedroom.

Fire department spokesman Dennis Leger says firefighters had to wake the man up just after the cave-in at about 7 a.m. on Thursday. The partial collapse did not happen directly over the man's bedroom.

Leger says the man, identified as Dan Scagliarini, declined medical attention.

A spokesman for the state Emergency Management Agency says there have been about 60 reports of collapsed roofs around the state since a two-day storm this week dumped more snow and freezing rain on the state. There have been no reports of serious injuries or deaths.

Many other buildings, including schools, have been evacuated or closed because of concerns over collapses.
