Driver Killed In Bridge Plunge Identified

AMESBURY (CBS) – The driver who was killed when his car went off the Whittier Bridge into the Merrimack River Monday night has been identified as a man from New Hampshire.

WBZ-TV's Sera Congi reports

64-year-old Charles Moncousky of North Hampton was pulled out of his submerged 2002 Toyota Camry about three hours after the crash.

His body was turned over to the medical examiner's office.

The car was pulled out of the river Tuesday morning.

It's still not clear what caused the crash, but police say it appears Moncousky was speeding.

State police say the drop from the bridge to the water is about 100 feet, and the car plunged through 20 feet of water to the bottom of the river.
