Romney Continues Testing Presidential Waters

BOSTON (AP) - Former Governor Mitt Romney says he has great affinity for the small Massachusetts House Republican delegation, but he's not seeking their support for a presidential campaign yet.

The expected 2012 White House contender exited the Union Club on Friday carrying an uneaten, open-faced sandwich after meeting with the House GOP caucus.

Romney says he cares "very deeply" about the group because it's focused on job creation.

He says he didn't ask for their campaign support.

Republicans are largely overshadowed in heavily Democratic Massachusetts. They hold just four seats in the 40-member state Senate. But the party gained 16 seats in the 160-member state House, pushing them over 30 members for the first time since 1996.

Some were backed by tea party activists, with whom Romney has maintained an arm's-length distance.
