6 Mass. Residents Contract Cholera In Dominican Republic

BOSTON (AP) - The Massachusetts health department says six state residents have tested positive for cholera after attending a wedding in the Dominican Republic earlier this month.

Department spokeswoman Julia Hurley said Friday that all the patients have been released from local hospitals, and health officials aren't concerned the disease will spread.

Officials in the Dominican Republic said the guests became infected after eating contaminated lobster at the Jan. 22 wedding in the exclusive community of Casa de Campo. More than 110 cases have been reported in Venezuela, where many of the 452 guests live. Other guests were also treated in Spain, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

The Massachusetts cases include a man, a young woman and a father and his three children.
