Curious About Snowy Bus Stops

Who is responsible for cleaning snow at bus stops?  I take the bus every morning, and I have to wait on the street because the snow is piled in front of the stop, and these piles are just getting bigger and bigger.  - Diane, Dorchester

And with another storm on the way we can't expect much improvement.

But here's the deal.  There are about 8000 bus stops in the MBTA system, but only about 150 of them are actually owned by the "T."  And those are the only ones the system is responsible for keeping clear of snow.  The rest are the responsibility of the property owner that abuts the bus stop.  So that could be a city or a private landowner.

The only good news I can give you is that the MBTA has set up a website so you can figure out which bus stop is which, and complain to the proper entity if your bus stop is a snowy mess.   Find it here.

What has it been like for you this winter if you ride the commuter rail, the subway or the bus?
