Malpractice Suit Over Hull Girl's Death Settled

BOSTON (AP) - Lawyers for the estate of a 4-year-old Hull girl whose parents were convicted of giving hear a deadly dose of prescription drugs say they have settled a malpractice suit against the psychiatrist who prescribed the medication and her employer.

Rebecca Riley's lawyers say they settled their suit against Dr. Kayoko Kifuji and Tufts Medical Center for $2.5 million.

Attorney Benjamin Novotny tells The Boston Globe the money will be distributed to Rebecca's siblings, now 15 and 10.

Tufts, which did not admit wrongdoing in the settlement, said in a statement that it settled to spare Rebecca's siblings the trauma of going through a trial.

Rebecca's parents were both convicted of murder for her December 2006 death. Kifuji never faced any charges.
