Chinatown High-Rise Evacuated After Water Pipe Bursts
CHINATOWN (CBS/AP) - A water pipe on the 9th floor of a high-rise apartment building burst late Monday night and sent hundreds of residents into single-digit temperatures and an emergency shelter.
The pipe burst in the 28-story Archstone Apartments building in Chinatown around 11:30 p.m., sending water cascading into apartments, and down elevator shafts and stairwells.

Investigators think a 6-inch pipe for the building sprinkler system is to blame and the break may have been caused by the cold.

About 1,000 residents were evacuated because the power was shut off.
No one was hurt.
MBTA buses took the residents to a shelter at a nearby school.
It's not clear yet when they'll be able to return to their homes.
