Bitter Cold, Single Digit Temperatures For Weekend

BOSTON (CBS) - With storm number three for the week wrapping up, it's time to look ahead to what's next.

Thankfully we get a brief break from the snow, BUT another big weather story is now emerging. A frigid, Arctic air mass straight from northern Canada will plunge southward this weekend, starting on Saturday and in full force by Sunday and Monday.

So far, the coldest temperature in Boston this season is 14 degrees, set back on January 17th. That may be what our high temperature is on Sunday and Monday!

Low temperatures will plunge into the single digits for the next several nights, bottoming out on Monday morning when Boston has a chance to dip below zero.

This would be the first reading zero or below since January 22nd of 2005!

As cold as it will be, we will not likely set any low temperature records over the next several days. The record lows are as follows:

Saturday 22nd: -3 (1888)

Sunday 23rd: -6 (1882)

Monday 24th: -13 (1882)

Tuesday 25th: -5 (1935)

So bundle up and get ready for our next potential storm, which right now appears to be next Wednesday.
