On Friday, the state's top elected officials including Gov. Deval Patrick, House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray gathered in the House chambers at the Statehouse to honor DeNucci, who chose not to run for re-election last year.
DeNucci, a successful boxer in his younger days before turning to the equally rough-and-tumble world of state politics, held the office of auditor for 24 years. The former state representative from Newton said he was honored by the trust voters placed in him.
Newly sworn-in Auditor Suzanne Bump, who is replacing DeNucci, was also on hand.
