Plowable Snow Coming For Friday Commute

BOSTON (CBS) - Get ready for one more messy commute this week.

Snow will begin to fall between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. Friday, become heaviest from about 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and quickly taper off between noon and 1 p.m.

It is a quick shot of plowable snow, lasting less than 12 hours, but coming at just the wrong time for morning commuters.

Most weather models give our area an average of about 4-to-8 inches.  Southeastern Mass. and the Cape and Islands can expect 2-to-4.

The good news with this storm - no big wind concerns or major coastal flooding issues.

The tides are very high astronomically Friday with the high tide occurring right at noon.

Because of this there could be some minor splash over, but the storm surge will be quite low lessening any impact at the coast.

Whatever snow does fall will also not be going anywhere fast.

Temperatures will plunge this weekend to some of the lowest levels we have seen in a few years!

Highs on Sunday and Monday will struggle to get into the teens and overnight lows near zero in Boston and well below zero in many suburbs.
