Curious About Getting A Ticket For Snowy Car

It's not snow on the roof of vehicles that I find so annoying and dangerous, it's the failure of people to clear snow from their rear windows and, especially, their TAIL LIGHTS.   Then there are the drivers who clear an area of their windshields no bigger than a tennis ball. Can't we get these dangerous people off the roads and have their vehicles confiscated?  - Richard, Southboro

Don't know about confiscating vehicles, but you can be fined.

According to the Mass. State Police, even though there's no specific law saying you have to clear snow off your car, you can be ticketed for something called "impeded operation."  That means if anything interferes with your ability to operate the vehicle safely, or could potentially do so, it may be considered an "impediment."  The fine is $35.

You're also supposed to keep your license plates clear.  If not, that's another possible $35 fine.

Do you keep your car free of snow?  What are you seeing?
