Aderito Cardoso, 22, of Brockton was shot in the head and killed. The name of the man who was injured is not being released. Officials say he was shot in the torso and his injuries are not life-threatening.

A medical helicopter flew Cardoso to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston where he was pronounced dead.

WBZ-TV's Alana Gomez reports.

A large group of family and friends gathered around Cardoso's Brockton home Saturday afternoon.

"I miss him, I wish he was here, I wish he didn't die," said Cardoso's 12-year old brother Adenilzo Lopes. "He did everything for me. He was always there for me."

Cardoso had a seven-month old daughter with his girlfriend.

Cardoso's family and close friends say they have no idea why he was at the apartment building in Mansfield.

"It's just a shame that he was at the wrong place at the wrong time," said a friend Juary Goncalus. "I just wish he wasn't there."

Police Chief Arthur O'Neill told The Boston Globe they'd recovered a firearm and there's no continued threat to the community.
