Bart Scott: Welker's 'Days In A Uniform Will Be Numbered'

FOXBORO (CBS) – The Jets are firing back after Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker made 11 foot or toe references during a press conference on Thursday, possibly directed to Rex Ryan and his reported involvement in foot fetish videos.

"[We're] really moving forward and we're going out there being good little foot soldiers," Welker said Thursday.

Jets center Nick Mangold countered Welker's tongue-in-cheek words with some words of his own, via Twitter.

"Wes Welker is a great player. He's really taken advantage of watching film. If we don't keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gate," Mangold said, making an obvious reference to the Spygate scandal that plagued the team in 2007.

Jets linebacker Bart Scott, however, took it to a whole new level, prompting NFL officials to take notice. Scott told Newsday that Welker better watch himself during Sunday's game.

"I'll tell you what," Scott told Newsday on Friday. "Be very careful what you say about our coach. His [Welker's] days in a uniform will be numbered. Put it like that."

NFL lead disciplinarian Ray Anderson sent out a notice to the eight remaining playoff teams to watch the trash talking.

"Ray Anderson reminded players that comments of a physically threatening nature are always taken into account in evaluating discipline for any illegal physical contact on the field," league spokesman Greg Aiello said Saturday.

The Patriots and Jets will finally take the field to settle the score once and for all Sunday at 4:30 p.m. on CBS.
